In a Led Class, the teacher guides students through the Primary Series (or other series) at a steady, synchronized pace. Everyone moves together through the sequence, with the teacher calling out the Sanskrit names of postures and the vinyasa count.
Named after the city of Mysore in India, this is the traditional method where students practice the sequence at their own pace while receiving individual guidance from the teacher. This self-paced practice allows for personal growth and deeper understanding.
The foundation of Ashtanga practice rests on three essential pillars, known as Tristana. These three elements work together to create the transformative experience of Ashtanga Yoga.

In traditional Ashtanga practice, we observe Moon Days by taking rest from our regular practice. This ancient tradition recognizes the powerful influence of lunar cycles on our bodies and minds, as we are composed of approximately 70% water, just like the earth.
Full Moon: The moon's gravitational pull is strongest, making us feel more energetic but also more prone to injury. The full moon energy can make us overconfident and push beyond our limits.
New Moon: Energy is more introspective and grounding. We may feel less energetic and more contemplative, making it a perfect time for rest and reflection.
This tradition teaches us to honor natural rhythms, practice moderation, and understand that rest is as important as active practice in our spiritual journey.
Rest, reflect, and restore on Full and New Moon days
In 2018, Tung embarked on a life-changing journey to Mysore, India, the birthplace of Ashtanga Yoga. There, he completed his RYT 200 Hatha & Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training, immersing himself in the authentic practice under the guidance of traditional teachers.
Since 2022, Tung has made annual pilgrimages to practice at the Sharath Yoga Centre (SYC) with R. Sharath Jois, the authorized lineage holder. These intensive practice periods have deepened his understanding of the tradition and strengthened his commitment to sharing authentic Ashtanga teachings.
The experience of practicing in Mysore - waking before dawn, practicing in silence with practitioners from around the world, and receiving direct guidance from Sharath - has profoundly shaped Tung's approach to teaching and his dedication to preserving the integrity of this ancient practice.
